Klien Bowl

Ceramics research, 2010

For the past year and half I have been involved on a ceramics research project headed by Paul Mathieu to rapid prototype complex ceramic objects. One of the products I have been designing during this time is the X bowl, based on the Klien bottle single surface theory. The bowl is designed in Rhino (3D modeling software) and then printed via 3-D printer in stoneware. The bowl has an exterior and an interior wall, with a contoured tube in the middle. The tube has an opening on the top of the bowl and then opens up inside at the bottom of the bowl. The slideshow showcases the 3D printed prototypes and a top view of the digital model.
